Accessories and Add-ons
Customizing your GoPro to fit your needs is important. Adding accessories can Increase the functionality of your camera, giving you the best possible experience. Some add-ons can improve your camera's performance, giving you the ability to obtain photos and videos like never before. Below are some basic, and extremely helpful add-ons that can drastically improve your shots.
LCD Touch Screen Backpack- $79.99This accessory is not necessary for the Hero 4 Edition Cameras, as they have a built-in LCD screen. For the rest of the GoPro owners though, this accessory is very handy. One of the biggest issues with the Hero 3 cameras is that there is no view finder. When taking pictures or mounting the camera, there is no way to know the quality of the pictures/videos. Add this to your camera, and you have saved yourself a whole lot of shots, and time. The touchscreen backpack tends to drain the cameras battery quickly, but in this case, the benefits outweigh the risks.

Smart Remote- $79.99The smart remote enables the photographer to control the camera while up to 600 feet away. This includes: Stop/start recording, take a picture, and the ability to cycle through the menu to choose different settings or shooting modes. The remote was also made to be waterproof, so it can go anywhere your camera can go.

Dive Filters and PolarizersRed Filter- used in blue water generally 15-70 feet in depth
Magenta Filter- used in green water generally 15-70 feet in depth Red and magenta filters improve picture and video quality when underwater (scuba diving, snorkeling). Red and magenta light are naturally filtered out by the water past 15 feet. The result is a dull, colorless picture. Adding these filters will make your underwater photography look as stunning as in person. Here are some pictures to illustrate the importance of filters. |
Red/Magenta FilterAs you can see, the picture on the right is very washed out, due to the lack of red light making its way down to this depth. Simply adding the red filter to the camera shows the vivid colors of the sea floor and shows what the camera wasn't picking up without the filter.

PolarizerThe picture on the right is completely washed out by the sunlight. Adding the polarizer eliminates the polarizing light entering the camera. The left picture is much more clear, details can be made out and the colors are more vivid.
